bio
Anya Galkina is a Toronto artist producing paintings, drawings and prints. Her work portrays the complexity and strangeness of life as it unfolds around her. She creates provocative images of people, objects and psychological landscapes through the fusion of realist techniques with fantastic narrative elements.
Anya began her training as a painter’s apprentice in Odessa, Ukraine. After moving to Toronto, she graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design, where she had received several awards during her studies.
Presently, Anya is working on a series of drawings called Group Hug, and on laminated collages in which people and candy wrappers are trapped in sheets of transparent plastic.
